Our last free activity for the August Summer Holidays ended on a high, with an amazing Mobile Zoo visiting the Brewery on Thursday 27th August. Children and adults alike had lots of fun meeting a whole variety of animals up close and personal. The stars of the show were two seven week old baby raccoons called Mica and Misha, who featured in the Zoo's nursery pen. Zoo keeper Sarah demonstrated to the crowds how she hand reared them with miniature bottles of milk to keep the hungry babies satisfied.
Children also had the opportunity to hold or stroke the animals, including snakes, spiders, lizards, rabbits and guinea pigs. At feeding time people watched as a large monitor lizard was fed his lunch of a dead mouse and a python a dead baby chick - not for the squeamish! Later in the afternoon children took part in cockroach racing and had to guess which cockroach would run the fastest for a chance to win some sweets.
Not only was it a really enjoyable day but an educational one too, with people finding out all about the different types of animals on display.
